The article is devoted to the study of the issue of implementation of international documents and programs on environmental protection and development, regional seas; conventions on the law of the sea; rational use and sustainable development of coastal zones in development projects of the Odesa region. The Concept of Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) is considered, which is a dynamic, multidisciplinary and iterative process aimed at promoting sustainable management of coastal zones, the main task of which is to balance environmental, economic, social, cultural and recreational goals set by natural dynamics. In the search for sustainable solutions for successful coastal zone management, three main points of view are highlighted that summarize the idea of sustainable development: economic development to improve the quality of life of people; environmentally acceptable development; equitable development. This means that sustainability must recognize the right of people to live a healthy and productive life. It must ensure equal distribution of benefits for all people and thereby protect the environment through proper use.
This study examines the most common coastal resort and recreational areas, which include unique natural features, historical and cultural monuments, as well as in which sustainable economic development has been formed, the so-called territorial systems of resorts, recreation and tourism zones. An analysis of world experience in coastal resort and recreational systems shows that they can be divided into: nature reserves (Whitsunday Archipelago in Australia), historical and cultural (Dubrovnik in Croatia; Cuba Island) and futuristic (Dubai, UAE).
With rational integrated management of coastal areas, an equal distribution of goods and resources is ensured, and the environment is protected through proper use.
